Ezekiel 30:9
““‘“In that day messengers will go out from before me in ships to make the careless Ethiopians afraid. There will be anguish on them, as in the day of Egypt; for, behold, it comes.””
What does Ezekiel 30:9 mean?
Ezekiel is describing a day of reckoning when God's judgment will reach beyond Egypt to surrounding nations, including Ethiopia. The "messengers" aren't necessarily people but rather swift, unstoppable judgment spreading across the region like ships moving down the Nile, catching people off guard. The Ethiopians are called "careless" because they felt secure and untouched, not realizing their own vulnerability to God's plans. By comparing their coming suffering to Egypt's (which Ezekiel has been describing throughout this chapter), the prophet emphasizes that no nation, no matter how distant or confident, escapes the consequences when they turn from God.
