Ezekiel 3:15
“Then I came to them of the captivity at Tel Aviv, that lived by the river Chebar, and to where they lived; and I sat there overwhelmed among them seven days.”
What does Ezekiel 3:15 mean?
Ezekiel has just received an overwhelming calling from God, filled with visions and divine commission. When he arrives at the refugee community by the river, he's so shaken by what he's experienced that he simply sits in silence for a week, unable to speak or process what's happened to him. This moment shows us something deeply human about encountering God's presence and purpose. Sometimes the weight of what we're called to do, or what we've witnessed, leaves us speechless. Ezekiel doesn't rush to his prophetic duty or immediately start delivering messages. He sits with the people in their captivity, and he sits in his own shock and heaviness. That seven days of sitting might feel like a failure or delay, but it's actually how he enters into understanding the depth of their suffering and his own need for steadiness before speaking God's word into their despair.
