Ezekiel 23:31
βYou have walked in the way of your sister; therefore will I give her cup into your hand.ββ
What does Ezekiel 23:31 mean?
God is telling Jerusalem (through the metaphor of a wayward sister) that because she has followed the same destructive path of unfaithfulness that led her sister Samaria to ruin, she will now drink from the same bitter cup of consequence. The "cup" here represents suffering and judgment, a common biblical image for facing the results of our choices. Just as Samaria fell to the Assyrians because of her rebellion against God, Jerusalem is being warned that the same fate awaits her if she continues down this road. This is both a stark warning and an invitation to turn back before it's too late, rooted in the reality that our actions have real consequences, especially when we persistently turn away from what we know to be true and right.
