What does Ezekiel 18:23 mean?
God is asking a rhetorical question that reveals his heart: he takes no delight in judgment or destruction. The words carry the weight of genuine concern, almost like God saying, "Do you really think I *want* this outcome?" What he actually desires is transformation and life, which is why he constantly calls people away from destructive paths and toward repentance. This matters most when we're struggling with shame or wondering if God has given up on us or on people we love. The answer is no. God's preference is always restoration over condemnation, and he extends the opportunity to turn around as long as there's breath in our lungs. It's an invitation hidden inside a question.
