Ezekiel 17:22
““Thus says the Lord Yahweh: ‘I will also take some of the lofty top of the cedar, and will plant it. I will crop off from the topmost of its young twigs a tender one, and I will plant it on a high and lofty mountain.”
What does Ezekiel 17:22 mean?
God is promising here that something new and good will grow from what seems broken or diminished. The "cedar" represents the nation of Israel, which Ezekiel's audience saw as fallen and powerless during their exile in Babylon. Instead of abandoning them entirely, God says he'll take even a small, tender piece and plant it somewhere it can flourish. This is deeply hopeful: God doesn't need the whole tree to restore his people. A single shoot, carefully chosen and planted in the right place, is enough for him to work with.
