Ezekiel 17:20
“I will spread my net on him, and he will be taken in my snare. I will bring him to Babylon, and will enter into judgment with him there for his trespass that he has trespassed against me.”
What does Ezekiel 17:20 mean?
God is speaking here through the prophet Ezekiel about King Zedekiah of Judah, who has broken his covenant and rebelled against God's established order. The imagery of nets and snares conveys that Zedekiah's escape is impossible, not because God delights in trapping him, but because the consequences of his choices are inescapable. Babylon represents both the earthly power that will execute this judgment and the place where accountability will finally come.
