Ezekiel 16:48
“As I live,” says the Lord Yahweh, “Sodom your sister has not done, she nor her daughters, as you have done, you and your daughters.”
What does Ezekiel 16:48 mean?
God is telling Jerusalem that her sins have actually surpassed those of Sodom, the city whose name became synonymous with wickedness and divine judgment. This is shocking language, meant to shake people awake to how far they've strayed, not through outright rebellion against God, but through betrayal of the relationship and privilege they'd been given. Jerusalem had received God's guidance, protection, and law in ways Sodom never had, yet still turned away. The comparison isn't meant to make anyone feel hopeless, but rather to show how seriously God takes broken trust and how urgent the call to return really is. Even in devastating rebuke, there's an implied plea: you know better, and you're capable of better.
