What does Ezekiel 16:14 mean?
God is speaking to Jerusalem here, reminding the city of its former glory and honor among other nations. The beauty he describes isn't vanity or pride, but rather reflects God's own character and blessing that he generously gave to his people. When we shine or succeed or find ourselves known for something good, it's ultimately because God has given us that capacity, that strength, or that opportunity. This is especially poignant in context because Ezekiel uses this language of beauty and majesty to set up a heartbreaking contrast, showing how far the city has fallen into unfaithfulness. It's like God is saying, "Remember what you were, what I made you to be?" The verse holds both celebration of what God gave and, implicitly, grief over what was lost.
