What does Ezekiel 11:4 mean?

God is calling Ezekiel to speak a difficult message to the elders and leaders of Jerusalem who have gathered around him. At this moment in history, Ezekiel is in exile in Babylon, separated from his homeland, and the Lord is asking him to take on the burden of being a prophet, even when the words won't be comfortable or welcome. The repetition here, "prophesy, prophesy," shows the urgency and weight of what God is asking, almost like a parent saying a child's name twice when something really matters. Even in hardship and displacement, God hadn't abandoned His people, but He did ask His messenger to tell them the truth about where they'd gone wrong, because sometimes the most loving thing is an honest word spoken with courage.
