What does Exodus 9:12 mean?
When God hardens Pharaoh's heart, it means God reinforces the stubborn resistance that's already there, making it even more fixed and unyielding. This wasn't forcing Pharaoh to become evil, but rather allowing his own refusal to deepen so that the consequences would fully unfold. Throughout these plagues, Pharaoh had repeatedly chosen to ignore Moses' warnings, and each time he did, his resistance grew more entrenched. The pattern shows that when we persistently refuse to listen to God's voice, our hearts can become increasingly closed off, making change harder and harder to imagine. This is a sobering reminder that our choices matter, and turning away from truth repeatedly can calcify our willingness to hear it.
