What does Exodus 7:22 mean?
When Moses turned the Nile to blood as a sign of God's power, Egypt's magicians were able to replicate the trick using their own methods. Rather than humbling Pharaoh or opening his eyes to something beyond his understanding, the trick backfired, hardening his resolve even more. He reasoned that if his own magicians could do it, then Moses was nothing special, and he refused to let the Hebrew people go. What's happening here is a pattern that runs through the plagues: each miracle becomes an opportunity for Pharaoh to either turn toward God or dig in deeper. Even when faced with undeniable power, he chose to cling to his own authority and comfort. The verse reminds us that seeing something extraordinary doesn't automatically change a hardened heart, sometimes we only see what we're already determined to see.
