What does Exodus 6:4 mean?
God is reminding Moses that the promise to give Abraham's descendants a permanent home in Canaan is real and enduring, even though the people are currently enslaved in Egypt. The word "aliens" here emphasizes that Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob lived as outsiders in Canaan during their lifetimes, never fully possessing what God promised, yet trusting anyway. By bringing up this covenant at this particular moment (when the Israelites are suffering), God is saying, "I haven't forgotten what I swore to your ancestors, and I'm about to fulfill it."
