Exodus 4:6
“Yahweh said furthermore to him, “Now put your hand inside your cloak.” He put his hand inside his cloak, and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous, as white as snow.”
What does Exodus 4:6 mean?
God is giving Moses a sign to prove His power and presence to the Israelites, who will naturally be skeptical of a stranger claiming to speak for God. When Moses puts his hand in his cloak and withdraws it, his skin has turned completely white with leprosy, a devastating disease that made people outcasts in that culture. This isn't punishment for Moses, but rather a demonstration that God controls life, health, and the natural world itself. The sign is meant to show enslaved people that the God sending Moses is more powerful than Pharaoh, and worthy of their trust and obedience.
