Exodus 4:14
“Yahweh’s anger burned against Moses, and he said, “What about Aaron, your brother, the Levite? I know that he can speak well. Also, behold, he comes out to meet you. When he sees you, he will be glad in his heart.”
What does Exodus 4:14 mean?
God's anger flares here because Moses has spent the last several verses making excuses about why he can't lead Israel out of Egypt, despite God's clear calling. Rather than arguing further, God redirects Moses toward a practical solution: Aaron, his brother, who is already on the way to meet him and has the gift of eloquence that Moses lacks. What's striking is that God doesn't stay angry or punish Moses. Instead, God acknowledges Moses' real limitation (difficulty speaking) and provides real help through Aaron. This moment teaches us that when we hesitate to follow God's call, His response includes both honest disappointment and genuine provision. Sometimes the answer to our "I can't do this alone" isn't reassurance that we can, but rather the gift of someone to walk alongside us.
