Exodus 4:10
“Moses said to Yahweh, “O Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before now, nor since you have spoken to your servant; for I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.””
What does Exodus 4:10 mean?
Moses is expressing real fear about his ability to do what God has just asked him to do: go to Pharaoh and demand the freedom of the Israelites. He's telling God honestly that he struggles with speaking, that words don't come easily to him, and that this task feels impossible given his limitations. It's a deeply human moment where someone called to something big is naming exactly why they think they can't do it. What makes this passage comforting is that God doesn't dismiss Moses' concern or pretend the difficulty isn't real, but responds by offering him Aaron as a spokesperson and reminding him that God himself will be the actual power behind whatever words are spoken. Sometimes acknowledging what we struggle with, rather than hiding it, is exactly what opens the door to God working through us anyway.
