What does Exodus 34:5 mean?

Moses had broken the first set of stone tablets in anger when he saw the people worshiping a golden calf, and he'd gone back up the mountain to ask God for another chance. In this moment, God responds not with distance or rejection, but by descending in a cloud and standing beside him, then revealing his own name and character. This is God choosing to be present and known, even after the people's failure and Moses's grief. It's a profound reminder that God doesn't withdraw when we stumble, but rather draws near and lets us know who he truly is.
