What does Exodus 32:35 mean?
After Moses came down from Mount Sinai with God's law and found the Israelites worshipping a golden calf they'd crafted, God followed through on his warning by bringing a plague on the people. This wasn't arbitrary punishment, but a natural consequence of abandoning the God who had just freed them from slavery in favor of an idol they could see and control. Even though Aaron had made the calf (likely pressured by the crowd), the people chose to worship it, so they bore the responsibility for that choice.
