Exodus 32:34
“Now go, lead the people to the place of which I have spoken to you. Behold, my angel shall go before you. Nevertheless in the day when I punish, I will punish them for their sin.””
What does Exodus 32:34 mean?
God is telling Moses to move forward with leading the people toward the promised land, assuring him that divine guidance will go with them. But God also makes clear that there are real consequences coming, because the people's sin of worshiping the golden calf won't simply be overlooked or forgotten. This isn't God being vindictive, but rather acknowledging that choices have weight and that accountability is part of how a relationship with God actually works. It's a both/and moment: God offers continued presence and purpose alongside the honest reality that we can't escape the results of our actions.
