Exodus 3:12
“He said, “Certainly I will be with you. This will be the token to you, that I have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.””
What does Exodus 3:12 mean?
God is promising Moses that his presence will go with him through the enormous task ahead, even though it seems impossible right now. The "token" or sign isn't something dramatic that happens immediately, but rather proof that will arrive later, when Moses actually succeeds in leading the people to freedom and they worship together at Mount Sinai. It's as if God is saying, "You'll know I was with you all along when you look back and see how far we've come." This kind of assurance was probably exactly what Moses needed to hear, since he'd just spent forty years thinking his life was behind him before encountering God in a burning bush.
