Exodus 25:2
““Speak to the children of Israel, that they take an offering for me. From everyone whose heart makes him willing you shall take my offering.”
What does Exodus 25:2 mean?
God was asking the Israelites to bring materials for building the tabernacle, the tent sanctuary where they would worship him in the wilderness. But notice he wasn't demanding a set amount from each person, or taking anything by force. Instead, he invited those whose hearts were genuinely moved to contribute, making it a gift of love rather than a tax or burden. This reveals something important about how God relates to us: he desires gifts that come from authentic desire, not obligation. When we give our time, attention, or resources because we truly want to honor him, that matters far more than going through the motions out of duty. It's an invitation to generosity that flows from the heart.
