Exodus 20:24
“You shall make an altar of earth for me, and shall sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and your peace offerings, your sheep and your cattle. In every place where I record my name I will come to you and I will bless you.”
What does Exodus 20:24 mean?
God is telling the Israelites that they don't need elaborate, expensive temples to meet with him, they can build simple earthen altars wherever they genuinely seek him. What matters isn't the grandeur of the place or how much you can afford to offer, but the sincerity of your heart in coming to worship. The promise "in every place where I record my name I will come to you" means God's presence and blessing aren't confined to one location or one type of building, they follow people who authentically turn toward him. This would have been deeply comforting to a wandering people, assuring them that whether they're in the wilderness, in a small village, or far from any grand structure, God meets them there. It's an invitation to know that drawing near to God is always accessible, no matter your circumstances.
