Exodus 20:22
“Yahweh said to Moses, “This is what you shall tell the children of Israel: ‘You yourselves have seen that I have talked with you from heaven.”
What does Exodus 20:22 mean?
God is reminding the Israelites of something they witnessed together, not something they're supposed to take on faith alone. At Mount Sinai, they had actually heard God's voice and seen the fire and cloud, so this was their shared experience, not a distant claim. He's essentially saying, "You know I'm real because you were there when I spoke to you." This matters because it grounds their relationship with God in something concrete and communal. They didn't have to wonder if Moses made it all up, because the people themselves had encountered God's presence. It's an invitation to trust not just a leader, but their own experience of encountering the divine.
