What does Exodus 19:14 mean?
Moses had been on Mount Sinai receiving God's instructions, and now he's preparing the people for a direct encounter with the holy God. The washing of clothes and sanctification (setting themselves apart as clean and consecrated) were practical and spiritual preparations, showing that meeting God required reverence and intentional readiness. This wasn't about earning God's favor through ritual alone, but about the people recognizing that they were about to stand before something—someone—far greater than themselves. Even today, these actions remind us that approaching God with awareness of who he is and some measure of preparation matters to our hearts.
