“For the horses of Pharaoh went in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and Yahweh brought back the waters of the sea on them; but the children of Israel walked on dry land in the middle of the sea.”
What does Exodus 15:19 mean?
When the Egyptian army rushed after the escaped slaves, they galloped straight into the sea that God had parted, expecting to recapture them. But God closed the waters back up, and every chariot and soldier drowned, while the Israelites walked safely across on dry ground. This verse captures the stark, almost unimaginable contrast of that moment: the same sea that saved one people destroyed the other. It's a powerful reminder that God acts decisively to protect those he calls his own, and that deliverance sometimes comes through experiencing something that would destroy our enemies.
