Exodus 13:9
“It shall be for a sign to you on your hand, and for a memorial between your eyes, that Yahweh’s law may be in your mouth; for with a strong hand Yahweh has brought you out of Egypt.”
What does Exodus 13:9 mean?
God is telling the Israelites to keep the memory of their rescue alive in visible, daily ways, so they never forget what he did for them. The "sign on your hand" and "memorial between your eyes" refer to physical reminders (which eventually became the practice of wearing phylacteries), but the deeper point is about keeping God's faithfulness constantly in mind and on your lips when you speak. When we regularly remember how God has come through for us, it naturally shapes how we live and what we teach others. This verse invites us to hold onto our own stories of deliverance and grace, letting them anchor our trust when things feel uncertain.
