What does Exodus 13:8 mean?
Parents are called here to pass down their own story of God's faithfulness to the next generation, making faith something personal rather than abstract. The "that day" refers to Passover celebrations, when families gather and children naturally ask "Why do we do this?" The parent's answer isn't supposed to be a recitation of history, but a heartfelt witness: "God rescued *me*. I experienced his protection and deliverance myself." When we share how God has shown up in our own lives, even in small ways, we give our children something far more compelling than doctrine alone—we give them permission to expect God to be real and active in their own lives too.
