What does Exodus 10:24 mean?
Pharaoh is starting to crack under the weight of the plagues, but he's trying to negotiate a compromise that keeps him in control. He's willing to let the people go worship their God, but he wants to keep their animals as collateral, hoping they'll return. It's a telling moment, because even as disaster strikes Egypt again and again, Pharaoh can't quite bring himself to surrender completely. Moses will reject this offer because a true departure means taking everything that belongs to them. What Pharaoh sees as a reasonable deal is actually just another way of holding Israel captive. This back-and-forth shows us how hard it can be to let go of control, even when circumstances are demanding it, and it reflects a deeper truth: halfway obedience or conditional freedom isn't really freedom at all.
