Esther 9:22
“as the days in which the Jews had rest from their enemies, and the month which was turned to them from sorrow to gladness, and from mourning into a good day; that they should make them days of feasting and gladness, and of sending presents of food to one another, and gifts to the needy.”
What does Esther 9:22 mean?
After narrowly escaping destruction, the Jewish people declared that the day of their deliverance should be remembered not just with relief, but with joy shared openly and generously. They instituted feasting and gift-giving, making sure to include those struggling or poor in the celebration, so that the whole community could feel the relief together. This teaches us something powerful: when we experience deliverance from hardship, we honor it best by spreading that joy outward to others, especially those still in difficult circumstances. The turning from sorrow to gladness isn't complete until it's shared.
