Esther 4:11
““All the king’s servants, and the people of the king’s provinces, know, that whoever, whether man or woman, comes to the king into the inner court without being called, there is one law for him, that he be put to death, except those to whom the king might hold out the golden scepter, that he may live. I have not been called to come in to the king these thirty days.””
What does Esther 4:11 mean?
Esther is explaining why she can't simply walk in and ask the king to help her people, even though she's his wife. There's a strict Persian court protocol: anyone who enters the king's private chambers without permission faces execution, unless the king extends his golden scepter as a sign of favor and forgiveness. She hasn't been summoned to see him in a month, which means approaching him uninvited would be especially dangerous and could cost her life. This reveals how powerless Esther actually feels despite her position. She's trapped between the danger to her own life and the danger to her people. It's a moment that shows us how real her risk is and why she needs courage (and faith) to act, even as a queen.
