What does Ephesians 4:17 mean?
Paul is calling out a hard truth: the way we live matters, and it should look different from a life lived without God's direction. He's speaking to people who've come to faith and reminding them that going back to old patterns of thinking—chasing empty pursuits, making decisions based on confusion or selfishness—contradicts what they now know to be true. The word "futility" here points to the exhausting treadmill of a life without purpose or meaning.
