Ephesians 1:13

What does Ephesians 1:13 mean?
Paul is describing what happens when we hear the good news about Jesus and trust in him: we receive God's Holy Spirit as a kind of spiritual seal or mark of ownership. That seal wasn't something the believers had to earn or wait for—it came immediately when they believed, as God's promised gift to them. The image of a seal is rich with meaning. In the ancient world, a seal proved authenticity, showed ownership, and protected what was inside. Paul is saying that the Holy Spirit does all of this for us spiritually: God marks us as his own and guarantees our salvation. It's a beautiful picture of belonging, especially meaningful for anyone who has ever wondered if God really claims us or if our faith is real.
