What does Ecclesiastes 1:11 mean?
The Teacher in Ecclesiastes is reflecting on how quickly the world forgets. Each generation passes away, and the next generation arrives with little concern for what came before. Our accomplishments, our names, our struggles, the things we thought mattered so much, tend to fade from memory as time moves on. It's a sobering observation about human mortality and the limits of our earthly legacy. But rather than leading to despair, this insight can actually free us: if our worth doesn't depend on being remembered, we're invited to live for something deeper than leaving a mark or building a monument to ourselves.
