Deuteronomy 9:3
“Know therefore today, that Yahweh your God is he who goes over before you as a devouring fire. He will destroy them, and he will bring them down before you. So you shall drive them out, and make them perish quickly, as Yahweh has spoken to you.”
What does Deuteronomy 9:3 mean?
Moses is reminding the Israelites that their military success isn't about their own strength or righteousness, but about God fighting for them. The vivid image of a "devouring fire" captures how unstoppable God's power is, clearing away obstacles before they even arrive at their destination. He's essentially saying: don't be afraid of the people already living in the land, and don't take credit for what's about to happen, because God is the one doing the work.
