Deuteronomy 32:7
“Remember the days of old. Consider the years of many generations. Ask your father, and he will show you; your elders, and they will tell you.”
What does Deuteronomy 32:7 mean?
In hard times, it's easy to feel like we're the first ones to face what we're going through, but this verse invites us to step back and remember that life's struggles and God's faithfulness stretch back through generations. Moses is reminding the Israelites (and us) that wisdom and perspective come from listening to those who came before us, whether that's actual family members or the accumulated spiritual memory of our communities. When we ask our elders and ancestors how they endured, what they learned, and how they experienced God's care, we find both comfort and courage. There's something deeply steadying about realizing you're not alone in your pain, and that others have already walked hard paths and found their way through.
