What does Deuteronomy 32:37 mean?

In this moment, God is describing what will happen when judgment falls, and even the foreign gods that Israel turned to won't be able to help them. The "rock" refers to the false gods they depended on instead of trusting God, and this verse captures the shock and emptiness people feel when they realize their confidence was placed in something that can't actually protect them. It's a sobering image of realizing too late that we've been leaning on things that were never solid to begin with. The passage isn't meant to shame us, but rather to show why turning back to God, who is truly dependable, is the only path that leads anywhere real.
