Deuteronomy 31:12
“Assemble the people, the men and the women and the little ones, and the foreigners who are within your gates, that they may hear, and that they may learn, and fear Yahweh your God, and observe to do all the words of this law;”
What does Deuteronomy 31:12 mean?
God is instructing Moses to gather everyone, without exception, to hear and learn his laws together. The inclusion of women, children, and foreigners (who weren't always granted full participation in community gatherings in that culture) shows that God's teaching is meant for the whole community, not just the leadership or the privileged. When we encounter God's word and his character, we're meant to respond with both reverence ("fear" God, meaning respect and awe) and obedience (actually living out what we learn). This reminds us that faith isn't something to keep private or hoard, but something to share across all our differences, and that understanding God's ways should naturally lead us to want to follow them.
