“when all Israel has come to appear before Yahweh your God in the place which he will choose, you shall read this law before all Israel in their hearing.”
What does Deuteronomy 31:11 mean?
Every seven years during Israel's festival gathering, the entire community would hear the law read aloud by their leader. This wasn't just for the scholars or priests, but for everyone, young and old, so that the whole people would know God's expectations together. The practice reinforced that God's guidance belonged to the community as a whole, not hidden away or accessible only to a few.
