Deuteronomy 30:12
“It is not in heaven, that you should say, “Who will go up for us to heaven, and bring it to us, and proclaim it to us, that we may do it?””
What does Deuteronomy 30:12 mean?
Moses is reassuring the Israelites that they don't need to search the heavens or wait for some distant messenger to deliver God's commands to them. What God asks of them is not impossibly remote or hidden away where only special people can access it. He's saying, in effect, "You already have what you need, right here and now, to know and follow what God requires." This comes near the end of Deuteronomy, when Moses is reminding people that obedience to God's law is actually within their reach. The very next verse continues the thought, emphasizing that God's word is near them, in their hearts and mouths. It's a comforting message for anyone who feels like faith or faithfulness is too complicated or requires special knowledge they don't possess. God makes his will knowable and doable for ordinary people.
