Deuteronomy 26:12
“When you have finished tithing all the tithe of your increase in the third year, which is the year of tithing, then you shall give it to the Levite, to the foreigner, to the fatherless, and to the widow, that they may eat within your gates, and be filled.”
What does Deuteronomy 26:12 mean?
God is asking His people to set aside a special portion every third year specifically for those who had no way to provide for themselves: the Levites (who served God full-time and had no land), immigrants without resources, children who had lost their parents, and widows left without support. Rather than storing up surplus for themselves alone, families were called to make sure these vulnerable people could eat their fill right in their own community. This reveals something beautiful about what God values: He notices who gets left behind when we focus only on our own security, and He invites those with resources to be the hands that meet real needs.
