Deuteronomy 18:19
βIt shall happen, that whoever will not listen to my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.β
What does Deuteronomy 18:19 mean?
God is speaking here about a future prophet who will come with His authority and message. When someone refuses to listen to what that prophet says, God Himself will hold them accountable for that rejection, as if they had rejected God's own words. This reflects an ancient pattern where God's chosen messengers carried His full weight and authority, so dismissing them was essentially dismissing God. For those who first read Deuteronomy, this warning meant taking seriously whoever God would send to guide them, knowing there would be real consequences for hardened refusal to hear.
