Deuteronomy 16:4
“No yeast shall be seen with you in all your borders seven days; neither shall any of the meat, which you sacrifice the first day at evening, remain all night until the morning.”
What does Deuteronomy 16:4 mean?
During Passover, the Israelites were instructed to remove all leavening (yeast) from their homes for a full week, commemorating their hurried escape from Egypt when there was no time for bread to rise. This wasn't just a private practice, but something observable throughout the entire community, reinforcing their shared memory and commitment to the holiday's meaning.
