What does Daniel 6:20 mean?
King Darius has spent a restless night after reluctantly throwing Daniel into a den of lions as punishment for praying to God instead of the king. Now, desperate with worry, he rushes back at dawn to see if his faithful advisor has survived the night. His question carries both anxiety and a glimmer of hope, even though he's asking whether Daniel's God could possibly do the impossible. What makes this moment so moving is that Darius, who isn't even a believer in the God of Israel, is the one voicing faith in God's power to save. He's already begun to wonder if the God Daniel serves might actually be "the living God," far more real and powerful than the gods of Babylon. Sometimes those watching our lives from the outside see the reality of God's faithfulness more clearly than we do when we're in the middle of our struggle.
