Daniel 5:15

Now the wise men, the enchanters, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing, and make known to me its interpretation; but they could not show the interpretation of the thing.

What does Daniel 5:15 mean?

King Nebuchadnezzar's wisest advisors stood before him completely stumped. Despite their reputation and training, they couldn't decode the mysterious handwriting on the palace wall, let alone explain what it meant. This moment captures something true about human wisdom: there are moments when all our knowledge, experience, and expertise simply isn't enough. The story is building toward something important, though the king doesn't know it yet. Sometimes when we hit a wall and our usual resources fail us, we're being moved toward asking for help from a different kind of source altogether. Daniel, who wasn't even called first, would soon offer an interpretation that neither magic nor expertise could provide.
