What does Daniel 2:6 mean?
King Nebuchadnezzar had a troubling dream but couldn't remember it, so he demanded that his wise men and magicians not only interpret the dream but first tell him what it was. He's offering significant rewards here, which reveals both his desperation and his power—he has the resources to honor those who help him, but also the authority to punish those who fail. What makes this moment poignant is that this demand is actually impossible for human wisdom alone, which sets the stage for Daniel's dependence on God's revelation rather than human cleverness. The king's offer of "gifts and rewards and great honor" shows us how he thought the problem could be solved: through payment and motivation.
