What does Colossians 2:22 mean?

Paul is pointing out the futility of following strict human rules about what you can touch, eat, or use, especially in religious contexts. These regulations might feel authoritative and make us feel spiritually superior when we obey them, but they're temporary and ultimately pointless because the things they govern simply wear out and disappear anyway. He's challenging the Colossian church not to get trapped by human-made religious requirements that have no real spiritual power. What matters isn't whether you've perfectly observed someone's list of rules, but whether you're connected to Christ and growing in genuine faith and love.
