What does Amos 6:9 mean?

Amos is describing a catastrophe so complete that even a house full of ten people will be wiped out, with no survivors. This is his way of saying that judgment will be thorough and inescapable, not something a few people can escape by hiding together. The prophet uses this stark image to convey how serious God takes the injustice and complacency he's been condemning in Israel, and how the consequences will touch everyone, regardless of their circumstances or how many are around them.
