What does Amos 5:7 mean?
The prophet Amos is addressing people who have twisted the legal system and abandoned fairness, making justice bitter and harmful instead of healing. Wormwood is a plant known for its terrible taste, so he's using it as a picture of how wrong and repulsive their corruption has become. They've taken what was meant to protect people and turned it into something that crushes them instead. This warning speaks directly to anyone in power, or really anyone, who compromises their integrity for gain or convenience, and Amos is saying that God notices when we undermine what's right.
