What does Amos 5:23 mean?
God is expressing deep frustration here, not with music itself, but with people who worship loudly and perform piety while ignoring justice and mistreating the vulnerable. Amos lived during a time of wealth and religious activity in Israel, yet the poor were being exploited and the needy overlooked. It's as if God is saying: your beautiful worship rings hollow to me when it's disconnected from how you actually treat people. This cuts to something many of us need to hear: genuine faith isn't about impressive words, perfect prayers, or even sincere-sounding songs. It's about how we live toward others. When our spiritual practices become a substitute for kindness, honesty, and care, we're essentially just making noise that God doesn't want to hear.
