Amos 4:6

What does Amos 4:6 mean?
God is pointing out a hard truth through the prophet Amos: he sent both blessing and hardship to wake his people up, but they still wouldn't turn back to him. "Cleanness of teeth" was a sign of plenty (when you eat well, your teeth stay clean), while lack of bread shows hunger and scarcity. The contrast is stark, meant to show that God mixed mercy with consequences, trying everything to get their attention. This speaks to something many of us recognize in our own lives: sometimes God allows difficulties precisely because he loves us and wants us to return to him. The Israelites had drifted away, and no amount of abundance or deprivation seemed to move their hearts. It's a sobering reminder that comfort alone won't necessarily draw us closer to God, and sometimes difficulty is actually God's way of calling us back.
