Amos 3:1
βHear this word that Yahweh has spoken against you, children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up out of the land of Egypt, saying:β
What does Amos 3:1 mean?
God is calling Israel to listen because what comes next matters deeply, and it comes from him directly. There's something striking in how he reminds them that he's the one who rescued them from Egypt, brought them into freedom and a land of their own. He's not speaking as a distant judge, but as someone with a long history with them, someone who has shown them faithfulness. When God says "against you," it's not casual criticism, but a serious word that flows from relationship. Even hard words from God come wrapped in the reality that he knows us, has invested in us, and continues to call us to listen.
